Don't be fooled by his debonair looks. This cat is a litter flinger. It's like his personal feline mission to send litter particles into outer space. Because the ultralight cat litter really flies, I buy the old school heavy kind. This hand vac sucks it all up, too. It's dedicated specifically to litter in my house because using it anywhere else would be gross. So for cat litter, a win.
I am an organic gardener in a hostile land roamed by plant devouring bugs and pests. The nemesis of every gardener here, organic or not, is the stink bug. Conventional farmers spray their crops half to death fighting this enemy while organic farmers and gardeners get creative. I purchased the Black & Decker CHV1410L 16 volt Lithium Cordless Dust Buster Hand Vac as part of my 2 part stink bug eradication strategy. So far, it works great! Early in the squash season (summer squash and zucchini are the stink bug's favorite prey) I lift stink bug eggs from the leaves of my plants with duct tape. Inevitably however, stink bug babies emerge from the egg clusters I miss and begin killing my plants. (Rabbits could learn about rapid reproduction from the stink bug.) In defense of my helpless plants this year, I started vacuuming stink bugs from my plants every day and flushing them down the toilet. I pull hundreds of the horrible death creatures from my garden every day thanks to my Dust Buster!WHAT IS IN THE BOX: One hand held cordless Dust Buster vacuum and charging base. The vacuum operates on a lithium battery which is included.WHAT I LIKE: The battery on this hand held vacuum lasts longer than I do. I almost always give out before I burn through the battery.I can suck up lots of stink bugs before I have to empty the vacuum.Emptying the vacuum chamber is simple. The "quick" empty normally allows me to get rid of all the bugs, but when I have a stubborn batch, I can get at them from the filter side of the chamber as well. The reusable filter washes up easily under running water.I love not having to worry about a cord!!! An organic farmer friend told me he uses a shop vac to eradicate his stink bug population, but I don't have an outlet anywhere near my garden.I love being able to leave the vacuum on the charger at all times without destroying the battery. I always have full power available.WHAT I DON'T LIKE: I really wish this vacuum exerted strong enough pressure to kill the bugs as I sucked them into it. I hate dealing with live bugs when cleaning the chamber.PICTURES: I am including pictures of the vacuum full of stink bugs as well as a shot of stink bugs in the garden.VIDEO: I am including a video demonstrating how well this hand held vacuum sucks bugs off my plants and even the debris covered ground. This is a great little vacuum. It does a great job sucking up stink bugs as they cling to leaves and straw and I can only imagine how great it would be at cleaning up stuff that doesn't resist being sucked into it. Definitely a great purchase!
We bought this to replace a dirt devil that had been weak and almost useless since we purchased it. We lived with the dirt devil for 6 years, unwilling to not get our money's worth. Let me tell you, that was a mistake - this relatively inexpensive replacement is a little powerhouse. It quickly and easily sucks up crumbs, hair, dust, litter and all those other little items that plague our surfaces and makes our space look soooo much nicer. On day I used it to clean all the baseboards, the stairs, the couch and, well, heck, I got carried away and did most of the floors - and it didn't run out of charge until the bitter end. Sits well in its base, too.
I'm really liking this unit so far. I've had it for about 3 weeks and it charges wonderfully and I've only managed to run the battery dead once and that was a big fall cleaning day so LOTS of use on one charge. It has a lot of power for such a small unit. Pulls up dog hair effortlessly and can pick up large dog food bits without getting stuck. The filter is easy to clean, a push of a button releases the filter compartment. My favorite part of it is the charger! Just simply set the unit on top and it starts charging! My only reservation is that it doesn't pick up as well as I'd like from plush/densely woven rugs. This was a great purchase for me and I'm very happy with it. It is used pretty much everyday!
Love it. Use it practically every day. Plenty of power and easy to clean. Only weakness is the nozzle extension that doesn't positively snap in place and slides back as you vacuum away, But you learn to live with it. Bought more as they make very appreciated presents. Even thinking about purchasing a second one for myself, before this good model is discontinued...Word of caution though, the vacuum just RESTS on its charging plate, no snap/latch in place. No good if you want to use it in an RV or boat where it needs to be positively locked to the charger, or if you have pets or toddlers who will easily knock it off the base. And can be finicky to correctly locate on the base for positive charging contact, but at least the strong charging lite gives positive feedback on the unit charging or not.The strong blue charging light makes a great night light by the way! After 1 1/2 year of steady usage, the lithium battery is still going strong. Much better than the two previous same vacuums I owned with Alcaline batteries that died prematurely and were very difficult to replace.
GREAT PURCHASE!! This lithium powered Black & Decker vac has been a very solid addition to the various other vacs we own (6 different). It has become the first thing I reach for to vacuum 5+8 year old messes. It seems that it is ALWAYS charged and always provides great suction. Bought it to clean the kitty litter that always ends up on the floor around the litter box. But at this point I use it to clean the kitchen floor under and around the table after the kids eat because it is so efficient and much easier to get than pulling out the large vac. Have owned MULTIPLE hand vacs and also own a cordless hand/stick vac. NOTHING has worked as well as this. Just MAKE SURE that you purchase THIS model with the LITHIUM battery. Black and Decker makes a model that looks exactly the same and is much cheaper BUT doesn't have the Lithium battery - And the reviews for it are horrible. I buy lots of things I get buyers remorse after - this is definitely NOT one of them.UPDATE: 03/23/2018:Look, if you are thinking about getting this....STOP WAITING AND JUST GET IT. I purchased this almost 2 1/2 years ago and STILL have had NO issues. And it is still going strong. Battery is still holding a charge. Filters that came with it are reusable and are STILL in the vacuum. Just make sure you get THIS model. Other black n decker models LIKE this are NOT THIS ONE....meaning they have some issues. But I use this all the time...every day from things like cleaning up kitchen table and underneath from my boys after they eat to cleaning up sawdust from woodworking projects to cleaning up kitty litter. IT DOES IT ALL! I don't know how everyone hasn't already bought this for their house....to me it is a MUST!. And if someone bought this and had an issue......that is NOT the norm! 2/3 rds of all 14000+ purchasers give it 5 stars. Its that good!
UPDATE: It is now 2019(!), and I have been using this vacuum for 6 years now. It still functions, and I am still using the original filter. Nothing has changed from my original review, there are still things I would like to change about this product (specifically the way the top locks - or doesn't lock - into place consistently) but the fact that I have gotten 6 years of use out of a handheld vacuum is unprecedented so far for me so I am happy to overlook that flaw.No broken parts, battery still holds a decent charge (I get about 20 minutes of uninterrupted vacuuming out of it at this point, which is more than enough for small cleanups), and the vacuum basically functions as it did when I purchased it.This appears to be a solid product with a reasonable price point and proven durability, so it still gets 5 stars from me.______________________________________Original review below:______________________________________After several negative experiences with other vacuums, I wanted to wait to do a long-term review of this product because, for me, how a vacuum cleaner holds up to prolonged use is more important than my first impressions. I have now been using this vacuum for 2 years, so I feel pretty confident in giving this product 5 stars (i.e. I love it, with a few minor nitpicks). Why I bought this vacuum: I wanted something to quickly pick up small amounts of debris without having to haul out the much heavier and more cumbersome upright vacuum. I keep it plugged into its dock in the main living area, so I can quickly grab it whenever needed.Things I love: After buying this vacuum, I got golden retriever puppy, so it's safe to say that about 90% of what I'm vacuuming up nowadays has some amount of dog hair in it. Even though I didn't buy this for handling pet hair, this vacuum handles it flawlessly. In fact, I frequently use it to grab up the stray tumbleweeds of dog hair that often migrate into the various corners of the house (pet people you've probably dealt with this before). You'll need something much more powerful to get the pet hair out of carpets and furniture, but for hardwood floors, tile and other hard surfaces, it works great. For those who don't have pets, there's still plenty of uses for this thing. I use it to grab stray crumbs on the kitchen floor in between deep cleanings. It's great at picking up small leaves and dirt that get tracked in near the doorways. During the Christmas season, this vacuum is my go-to for picking up the Christmas tree needles which inevitably end up scattered everywhere (much like the dog hair!)So, in summary, I'd say that the vacuum is absolutely great for cleaning small to moderate amounts of debris off of pretty much any type of hard surface. I wouldn't recommend using it to clean pet hair or debris out of carpets or upholstery, although it can do so, provided it's not embedded very deeply.Cleaning: The vacuum is bagless and can be disassembled into 5 pieces for cleaning which you can see in the photo. It's a pretty straightforward process since most of the pieces are plastic. There's a cloth filter which can also be cleaned or replaced, as needed. The filter pops out and can be emptied into a trash bin, the full disassembly is only required if you want to clean all the parts (I tend to do this after 2-3 times of just emptying the cartridge). After cleaning, I like to put a couple of drops of essential oils (peppermint, etc) on the filter, which gives the room a nice smell while vacuuming. So far the filter and all internal parts have held up well with only cosmetic damage from scuffs, etc.Cons: There's not much to mention here, but a couple small things worth noting:1. The top of the vacuum cleaner is one solid piece that has to be clipped into the rest of the body of the vacuum. It can sometimes seem like it is locked in but, if you do not do this correctly, the end will fall off during vacuuming. This can be annoying, as you have to stop and re-attach it again. I'd recommend future models include a better locking mechanism, or at least something that holds together a bit better.2. Battery life is good; however after 2 years of moderate to heavy use, I get about 10 minutes of solid vacuuming before the battery dies out. I'd say this represents an overall degradation of about 50%, given that, when new, the vacuum could handle about 20 minutes before needing a recharge. This is, of course, a rough estimation, and I haven't compared performance to other vacuum models, just something to be aware of. It doesn't bother me much given that I only use it for small amounts of debris and not for vacuuming the entire house at once.Who would I recommend this for?-Anyone who has hard floors or surfaces they want to clean, without the hassle of a full-size vacuum.-Dorm use-Studio apartments-People with pets who want a quick way to get hair out of their (non-carpeted) surfaces
Overall, this is a great cordless vacuum. We use it primarily to clean up after our 1-year-old and it has earned its keep cleaning crumbs and whatnot from the floor, couch, car seat, and stroller. It has a respectable amount of power given its size and cordless nature. It's great for cleaning up small messes here and there, but doesn't really have the battery life to clean a large area. It will run continuously for about 15-20 minutes on a charge and then it takes an hour or two to recharge completely. It is very loud to operate and the charging cradle is a little awkward. It just kind of sits on top of a round cradle to charge. Although there is a flashing blue light to indicate that it's charging, there's not really any positive feedback or click when you sit it on the cradle. The vacuum stands upright on the charger (about 18 inches tall) and is pretty easy to knock over or push off the charger. The mechanism to empty the vacuum is workable, but could probably be better designed. Bottom line, it has a few quirks and limitations, but I would definitely recommend it if you're in need of a good cordless vacuum for cleaning up small messes around the house.
Here's the thing about this vac...when it can reach the dirt, it sucks up the dirt no problem. But the nozzle is fairly wide so don't plan on getting into tight spaces with it. While the nozzle can be turned left and right to get into corners and odd spaces, the nozzle itself is still pretty huge. I really wish it shipped with a crevice tool. Now, let's talk about the good stuff. The unit charges fast. It has a good amount of suction. The nozzle has a brush attachment that helps when picking up spills on a carpet. The vac is really easy to empty - push a button and you get access to the dirt tray. The unit is also easy to clean and maintain. It has washable filters. You hit them with some soap and water then let the dry. Easy maintenance. It's also lighter than I expected. The charger was new to me. It's an almost flat piece of plastic with charger bits inside. Sorta looks like a wireless charger for mobile phones. It sorta holds the vac upright but it can be tipped over rather easily.Overall, I'm happy but am looking to add crevice attachment.
This vacuum is EVERYTHING! The suction is incredibly powerful for a little cordless handheld vacuum. I've owned many in the past and can say that this alleviates many of the problems that give cordless vacuums a bad rep. For one thing it holds its charge for longer and maintains its suction power until the very end rather than fizzling out after a few minutes like the cheaper ones. It also has a more useful thin extendable nozzle for reaching into small crevices, an ideal feature when you're trying to clean your car interior. I also like that the brush is permanently attached to the nozzle (you can just swing it back if you don't want to use it). I often lose attachments so it's useful for me.Apart from that, I found the filter and canister extremely easy to clean. This little vacuum does the job when it comes to cleaning up messes confined to small areas, cleaning under sofa cushions, car seats, per hair, cat litter, and crumbs toddlers are always dropping everywhere. Lots of times you don't need/want to whip out the heavy duty vacuum and deal with winding and unwinding long cords. This works like a charm.I'd say spend the extra money and buy this over the $20-$30 range cordless vac's if you find yourself reaching for or wishing you had one often. It is definitely worth it for its far superior performance.
I've had this product about ten months and it has already quit working. It's charges...shows full charge, but will not turn on! Besides that, the item had been amazing. I have to cats and it cuts way back in cleaning time and effort.I wish the battery life was better. It seems to only last about 20 mins at most. It does have a fairly fast charge time though.*update*I emailed black and Decker customer service about my issue last night. I already got a response that they sent me a replacement! I Must say, that was more than acceptable. I anticipated weeks of fighting and more weeks of waiting. I am thoroughly impressed.
I LOVE this vacuum. No joke, this is something I've been wanting for ages. Don't get me wrong, I have a full sized vacuum, but it always felt like too much of a hassle for the smaller areas I wanted to vacuum on a more frequent basis than the weekly carpet vacuuming I did on weekends. This one is perfect. I use it under the lip of all my bookshelves to collect the dust balls. Because my bookshelves span multiple rooms, it's much easier to use a small, portable vacuum than a corded, large vacuum that needs to be re-plugged into a socket in every room.I also use this around my cat's litter box. She's brat with a bad habit of kicking bits out every day. The vacuum picks up all the tiny grains just fine, and it's portable enough to just grab and take into the closet where I keep her box every day.No winding long cords anymore! This basically changes through a charging pad you connect the base to. I keep the pad plugged into the socket in my cleaning closet and just return the vacuum there whenever I'm done.I haven't replaced the filter yet, but I checked opening and closing it before I used it for the first time. Seems easy enough.
Purchased one of these last Christmas for my sister after reading great reviews on it. She was so stoked about it I ended up buying one for myself. It is unbelievable and the power this little machine has and battery life for days. Something else I just discovered the last couple of days, I have been carving cuttlefish bone that drops a mountain of this very very fine dust. I thought I would vac it and that dust would shoot through the machine. Well, it contained the dust completely. The charge stand is perfect. Just set is down on the stand and it charches, and I also like that it sits straight up instead of having to lay it down. In other words, its space footprint is just the base. Best Dust Buster ever. This is the one you are looking for.
I like this hand vac A LOT! After two previous generation "duds" from black and decker hand vac I almost gave up on the brand BECAUSE of the horrible battery but with the much better reviews I decided to give this a shot.PROS:It works really well picking up kitty hair (we have four we rescued) on hard tile floors and dust bunnies. I love it for that. Call it my "pre Swiffer" and for litter that those sweet kitties can toss on the floor leaping out of their litter boxes it can't be beat! My husband likes it (he is the "Litter Man" and I love him for that!)The BATTERY LIFE IS GREAT! (an hour? maybe more, I don't know, never tested it past that amount of time)It recharges pretty quickly. The base is better to set it in and gets a better connection. It also has a better way of letting you know better when it is fully charged. It is cordless. (I hate cords)I like the way it looks. (kill me I am a woman who likes that kind of thing and bit sick of red hand vacs)It doesn't cost $400 like that Dyson V 6 hand vac that lasts 6 mins. on high (really Dyson?...though to be fair, I don't own one but know a few people who do)Cons:Not many But one for sure, it is LOUD! As in turn up the TV REALLY loud if you are watching TV in the other room when your husband is vacuuming up litter on the floor. For me it is a bit heavy (but I hope you read the part where I said this works GREAT!) (I have arthritis so too much stuff is a bit too heavy but for 95% of the world, this is fine)For the value, doing the job well, holding that charge for awhile, this is a keeper! So over all, if it lasts a bit longer than our last two Black and
I have hardwood floors in the majority of my home and usually vacuum them instead of sweeping, as it gets up more of the dust, etc. I wanted this for times I just have a spot here or there that needs to be gotten up quickly without dragging out my big vacuum. It has strong suction and is super easy to use. I like that all the attachments are built in so that I don't have extra pieces to keep up with or lose. The extension nozzle just pulls out and then pushes back in and the brush folds up. Super easy on that front. The biggest downside for me is not only the loudness, but the frequency of the noise. It is kinda painful, gotta say. When my kids use it they want to wear headphones to help block it out. I should too. Also, it seems the charge doesn't last as long as I would have expected. Overall, though, I would recommend this if noise isn't a deal breaker for you.
Purchased in Nov 2012, writing a second update, now in April 2015.This Dust Buster keeps on going. Still holding a charge VERY WELL and has not lost an ounce of suction power. I'm planning to add another one to the garage, and possibly adding more so that there is one on each floor of the house. Really amazing design and usefulness.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Purchased in Nov 2012, writing this review in Jan 2014. Its my first video, but of all the products I've reviewed on , this one deserves an extra star.We had a Black and Decker Dust Buster when they first came out (sometime around 1987). You would charge it up, and right after it got off the charger, it could suck up sawdust, but the battery would drain quickly, and suction power would lower until it barely made a noise and you couldn't feel the air moving into it.The Lithium Ion battery changes all that. When it is on, it is on at full blast, with the ability to suck up everything that fits in the tube. I've run it hard over the past year, and about 60 seconds before the battery dies, I can hear the sound reducing and you know it is almost out of juice -- That has only happened when I intentionally left it off the charger overnight in my garage in sub-freezing temps, then was doing woodworking and turned it back on to clean up a huge mess of sawdust. When it is out of juice, it just plain turns off. Much more satisfying than slowly sucking at lower power. But with day-to-day use, and always putting it back on the charger, I've never had it run out. What you WILL find with this dust buster is that your home vacuum gets used a lot less. :) This thing is about as addictive as a power washer. Once you turn it on, good luck putting it down; it is so satisfying to use and works so well, that I inevitably work around the room I'm in and suck up everything else I see on the floor, surfaces, baseboards and so on. In fact, while I was thinking about this review, I was trying to remember a time where I only vacuumed up the ONE THING that I was planning to suck up, and couldn't remember a time where I DIDN'T go around and clean up other things. It really is fun to use and the house is just naturally cleaner as a result. When you have the right tool for the job, any job can be fun, and this is the absolute right tool for the job. Right now I'm saving up to add one to the garage and other to the basement so that I always have one close at hand. Our upright vacuum now only comes out when we want to do the deep cleaning, about once a month.I use it for cleaning up spills while baking, cleaning up the table (chairs and floor) after the kids eat, I suck lint off the couch, clean up sawdust in the garage, suck up ash from the fireplace, suck up paper cuttings and stickers the kids leave on the floor. The list goes on.Another thing I have to mention is how easy it is to disassemble and clean. The filter system is great. I'm only now looking at replacing the filters, though I probably should have done this every six months. I keep it very clean by emptying the container, but also taking apart the filters and rinsing or brushing them out. I've seen a lot of vacuums meet ash or sawdust and immediately spray particles in the air, but this vacuum does not. It does an amazing job of containing very fine dust particles, which in turn raises your confidence to suck up anything and everything you see.The only two things anyone in the world could complain about are the noise and the LED light. I throw out both of those arguments as pointless, but I'll address them. The noise is loud. In the video you'll see that it gets up to 98 decibels. That is louder than conversation, about as loud as a Subway. The pitch of the noise is probably what some people object to. It has a higher pitch noise - closer to a weed whacker than a Harley - but the decibel level is what I'd expect for truly awesome suction power. The other thing people complain about is how bright the LED is. I'll give them that. It surprised me. You can see the blue glow outside the window of our kitchen. But if this does bother you, get out a Sharpie or some model paint and put a couple of dabs on it to either block or diffuse the brightness.Neither complaint should hold you back from getting this thing. If I had to choose this or an upright vacuum I'd choose this, or two of these.UPDATED 2/16/2014: It looks like you can replace the batteries if they ever die. Not easily, but if you have a multimeter and you really wanted to, the batteries are easy to get out and are stored in a nice battery pack. I uploaded another video to YouTube here: [...]
I've had this for a couple months and I have to say, it's pretty incredible. If you are looking for a cordless vac that has real suction and lasts longer than 20 minutes, you'll be disappointed but if you want something that can handle quick jobs or suck up the dog hair on the stairs this is your friend. It stores neatly in an upright position that I easily hide behind a plant in the dining room. It has accessories that are all neatly tucked into the unit and don't require fishing out of a cabinet. It is easy to empty and charges quickly. I love it.
I have wood floors through most of my house. I don't have pets, but I have long hair and lose a lot of it! I also have a messy son. I was looking for something to help clean up my hair and the many dust bunnies that seem to accumulate in my home office, as well as quick clean up other messes, like crumbs from the kitchen floor after snacks and meals.I'm one of those people who overthink everything and read tons of reviews before buying anything, regardless of the price. If you're like me, let me save you some time.....buy this vacuum!I've had this for 4 months now and I am ordering a 2nd one! I'm not ordering it because the first one went bad, but rather because I love it so much! I have a tri-level home and found myself using it so much in different parts of my home that I want the convenience of having one to stay in the kitchen/living room area and the other for the office, bedrooms, and for cars. I highly recommend. I've given it a good workout and it hasn't lost any suction power. Someone borrowed it for their car and sucked up something that was wet/damp, which stuck to the insides, so I took it all apart, washed the removable plastic parts, cleaned the rest with some Clorox Wipes, and dried well with paper towel, allowing the parts to sit overnight and dry out well before putting it all back together. Although I highly recommend you NOT suck up anything wet or damp, after putting it all back together the next day, it worked just as well as before. On that note, it is very easy to take apart and put back together. The container that holds the dirt and debris holds quite a bit so it's not necessary to empty after every use. I'm hoping this one and the extra I just ordered last me a long time and continue to work well. If not, I will amend/update my review, but for now, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this vacuum!
Long story short: BUY IT!Short story long: In my experience, handheld vacuums are notorious for lasting a few months before dying. I bought this one nine months ago and am still amazed weekly at how well it continues to perform! I have two big, VERY fluffy dogs (an Australian Shepherd and an Akita) who seem to shed faster than the speed of light, but this vacuum has managed to help me keep up.Filter & suction: It's super easy to dump out the contents when you're done, and when you start to notice the suction getting less powerful, all you have to do is remove the filter and rinse it off (just be sure to let it FULLY DRY before you use it again). I love how eco-friendly it is with the reusable filter.Ease of use: It immediately starts charging once it is placed on the charger base; no need to fumble with cords. It's fairly lightweight compared to some I've had in the past which makes it super handy to use on our carpeted stairs.Extendable crevice tool: The slimmer extendable tool has proven to be helpful when vacuuming between couch cushions and seats in the car, but tends to have less suction when using it.Battery: The battery is very long-lasting and very rarely dies before I'm finished cleaning. The only times it has died while in use are when I've neglected cleaning for far too long, which is totally fair. It seems to charge quickly so moments when this happens aren't a big deal at all.In summary, I highly recommend this vacuum, especially for those who have pets (or kids). Note: I was not compensated in any way to give this review, I've just been very impressed and pleased by the product. :)
I had an old Black and Decker Vacuum but it was one of those "blending in" with your dcor ones and didn't pick up that much. It was also several years old so I decided to treat myself to a better one. I'm so glad I did, because shortly after receiving this one, we were invaded, and I mean INVADED, by Asian Beetles. They swarmed our doors and windows and despite spaying for them, a few consistently made it through the front door. I have used this Black and Decker CHV1410L every day to vacuum up the beetles that made it through the door and onto my floor and the blinds over the side-lights of the door. It gets them up, even the living ones, and then I leave them in there until they die. I can watch them through the clean bin. Then I dump them into the garbage. It has been a life saver for me...not the beetles!! It has great suction power and is super easy to empty. I'm so glad I purchased it and recommend it to everyone!! Oh, it is so easy to replace on the charger, too. I love that!!
This was a present for our son. He used it first day he got it and loved it. This was 3rd one we purhased. We also own one of the 3, that being the first we purchased, the other two were were presents. If you haven't figured it out now, we are convinced this is the best unit (we have owned others) we ever owned. What makes it amazing, besides being powerful, (it zips up everything) is that your can fully disassemble it for thorough cleaning. quickly. That being when ever you want to, other wise it's simple to dump what ever you have. Almost as powerful as a full blown sweeper.in our humble opinion, its the best on the market for the price. Of course everyone has their own opinion. This is ours.
We love this Dust Buster, but I wish the battery lasted a bit longer. We both drive for Uber, and I shuffle kids around as a nanny, and we need to keep our cars clean and vacuumed. This seems to run low on the battery when I still have a bit more cleaning to do. It does have good suction, but the brush attachment of nozzle sometimes flips down during use. I do like that it's easy to clean/dump the canister. For the size and price, just wish the battery lasted a bit longer. It does charge easily. Next time I'd either buy something smaller- it can get a bit heavy, or spend a little more for a better battery life.
I have owned this vacuum about 3 months. So far I think it is excellent. I mainly use this in my bathroom to clean up excess cat litter that has spilled from the box. It has no problems sucking this up. It also works on my carpet as well. It seems to have strong suction power that has not weakened yet. The lithium battery is also great. I only use the vacuum for short increments but probably use it at least once a week, and have only had to charge it twice since purchasing it. I do not leave it on the charger when not in use. When I do need to charge it, it positions easily onto the charger and doesn't seem to take long to recharge. The battery was a big reason I chose this vacuum since my prior dust buster barely held a charge or had much sucking power after a few months of use. This vacuum is also easy to clean. You just pop off the filter and dump contents into the trash. You can also remove the filter and manually remove any dust that got on it. There is a little case around the filter, you just twist if off to get to the cloth filter for cleaning. I don't think you need to clean it after each use, but I still try to clean it frequently. It really does not take long to do. Overall this product works great and is worth buying over a non-lithium battery dust buster as I believe this will hold up much longer.
Bought this to replace an earlier model which I liked very much. This new model is almost identical in appearance, just different color.Pros -1. Charging stand. The charger is a corded disc, and to charge you simply rest the vac on the plate. It is contoured so you can tell when the vac is seated correctly, and also the blue light comes on. It sits nearly vertically which works well in the corner of my kitchen floor.2. Weight - very lightweight; noticeably lighter than my last model3. Ease of emptying/cleaning. Easy to take apart and tap out, filter easy to tap/shake off.4. Ease of reassembly - quick and straightforwardCons -1. Lag time when turned on. There is a slight (~1 second) lag between when you turn the switch on and it starts sucking. Adds to the challenge of vacuuming up that annoying, speedy housefly or wasp. No issues catching crumbs or dust. :)2. There is a little trap door at the vac end of the nozzle. When held horizontal, the door is closed. When vertical (as when charging) the trap door hangs open. Any insects captured can crawl out if you fail to empty before replacing on the charger.
What product do you really think works as advertised? Well, my experience has been with Black & Decker for the most part. This unit has very acceptable suction for its size (yes it will suck the lint off the carpet) and has a few interestingly mounted attachments that actually work. Cordless means "Cordless". The charging platform struck me as a little mundane, but it actually works. The instructions say "don't leave the unit off the charger when not in use"! With its Lithium Battery, there is no "memory issues" that some of us older folks remember about "Batteries". For the most part, I am happy with my purchase. Now comments from others; One that sticks out is the brightness of the charging light. Granted, I thought I had left the T.V. on after retiring due to the brightness of the living room. My fix, as another person did, put a piece of black tape over most of the light (you still want to know its charging). This is the only fault I found. Recommended.
I haven't owned a 'dust buster' in so many years I forgot how handy they are. Things get vacuumed more now like the onion skins out of the bottom of the vegetable drawer in the fridge for one. I couldn't be more pleased. Now having said that, I guess I'll have to go outdoors to empty those pesky little styrofoam bbs out of the collection tank - static electricity. As I write this review, I am reminded of the time I used my old dust buster to vacuum up live flies from between my curtains and the window. (I don't know how they got there.) After I vacuumed them up, I sat the dust buster outside so they could escape. Worked great. They didn't fly back inside and no fly guts to clean off the glass.

I have had this B+L CHV1410L for one year. It is in the overall the very best handheld I have ever owned with ease of use and power. It is light and when with extended noozle, very easy to get in places that the blunter end would be more difficult to do. It picks up every thing of reasonable small size and that just included a few moments ago a small plastic haired brush I was using to clean it! It is easy and quick to disassemble and take/knock out the dusk and then remove the filter end and do the same. However, I just learned a big and important lesson today and have seen no direct reference to in cleaning and reusing and putting in a new filter in its shell. Just that: there is a shell that slides off to pull out and clean off or dispose of the filter to replace just the filter! I was going to buy new filters, assuming, as I had once before that the shell and filter are one unit. . . not so and less expensive to buy filters only. The shell is plastic and, while replaceable, seldom is going to wear out and is very easy to clean. If you own this great little machine and did not know this, check it out and get a cleaner filter and improved suction (even with caked up junk, it still had great power). I am about ready to own another one, just for our kitchen!

I use this primarily for cleaning the stray sand around the cat's litter box as well as vaccing up crumbs from the couch after a hard night of Netflix & chilling (more frequently video games and chilling). For such jobs, this hand vac typically performs adequately. Admittedly, the power that you sometimes want/need just isn't there and this can be frustrating when you have to go over areas more than once. If you have stuff embedded in carpet fibers, this ain't the tool you're looking for. This is for light vaccing. Works well on hard surfaces (our apartment is hardwood flooring) and will perform reasonably well on non-shag rugs/carpets. We have a runner in our hall, and it's able to pick up the litter that the cat manages to get on there.I've also used this to clean out my car a few times and while it manages to do a decent job overall, the lack of power can make getting into crevices and lifting debris off of the carpet fibers a chore. On the whole, I would not discourage anyone from buying this product. It looks nice and performs decently. I don't necessarily have a good basis for comparison, though, because it's the only hand vac I've owned. The battery life doesn't seem to be an issue. I can't imagine anyone running the thing for more than about 20 minutes at a clip. The biggest job you're likely to perform with it is cleaning out the interior of a vehicle.I will say that the connection between the base and the nozzle isn't the strongest. I've had issues where I've been holding the vac by the nozzle portion and it's come apart, spilling debris everywhere. So I highly recommend holding it by the handle ***at all times*** (harder than you would think).
I wavered between giving this 3 or 4 stars, and decided to go with 4 stars because I actually do like it. However, I was extremely not impressed by the battery. I charged it up to full. Then I was going to use it to vacuum 3 beanbag chairs and a futon mattress. It worked really great to vacuum the first 2 beanbag chairs, then it died when I started the third one. I didn't look at the clock so I'm not sure how long it ran, but I think less than 15 minutes. Then I plugged it into the charger and waited for it to charge up. Two hours later, it was still blinking. I took it off the charger and had another try at the third beanbag chair, and it died after about 30 seconds. I put it back on the charger, and at 11 o'clock at night it was still blinking away. That seems like an excessive amount of time to charge it back up after using it for such a short time. However, the design is nice and it works well when fully charged. It is easy to take apart and empty the basket. I think it will only be useful for very small jobs. Unfortunately, there is no indicator that tells you when the battery is getting low. The vacuum keeps running, but the suction gets weaker and weaker, until it finally just dies. Because I didn't know the battery was running down, I wasted time trying to clean the filter because I thought that might have been the problem, but actually the battery had run down.
I am really liking all the new improvements on this model. I had the old 9.6v version for years but the battery had gotten so bad that it would not hold a charge very long. I kept using it cause it was "still" working...thought I would say....crawling along. Husband said...why don't you just get a new one, you use it all the time. So I broke down and bought this model. Very glad I did...so much more power 16 vs 9.6 volts and a lithium battery. I like hoe the head swivels now and the extension snaps into place when extend. My old one would always slide back in and I was always pulling it out.Sure I would have kept using my old one...but the improvements made a world of differencePros- more powerful suction- swivel head- locking extension- better batteryCons- Not a big fan of the charging station. I liked that I could hang my old one out of the way.Worth buying.... yes.... especially if you are using an old one and it is limping along.
We got tired of taking out our upright vacuum cleaner every time the kids would leave crumbs around the house and decided to buy this. This is a MUST HAVE for toddlers in a house. We maybe use this thing 20 times a day. Cleaning up everything from spilled dog food, cereal crumbs, playground sand from overturned shoes, dog and cat hair, and I even vacuumed a shattered pieces from a Pyrex tray. The battery holds very well, and I have yet to run the batteries dead because it's just so easy to return it to the charging base. The base does not secure the unit though, it can easily tip over while sitting on the base. The bin is fairly small, you can see it fill up with dirt and see a tiny loss of suction as the filter gets clogged up. The collection bin lifts off from the motor portion of the unit and can be easily dumped without much hassle. Cleansing the filter is just slightly more work. Twist the filter "cup" off and clear the mesh of fine dirt and hair, or rinse it all out with an outdoor hose.
I have read other reviews of this product that the charging light was too bright for them, but I like it as sort of a side light while my television is on, and as a night light when the telly is off. It is very powerful and charges quickly. I leave mine on the charger all of the time. The only negative things I can think of is maybe the spout is too small for some people, I think that is why it is so powerful. Also, the price when I first bought it as a gift was super high, then I bought a second one for myself for quite a bit less, and now I see it selling for even less. I would advise people to purchase it at the price it is now.
I bought this cordless hand vac exclusively to clean up around the cat litter box. The lightweight scoopable litter is nice, except every time the cat exits the litter box (with gusto), cat litter goes flying. Since the litter box is in the laundry room, I am able to keep the vac stored nearby, right on its charging base, plugged into a tucked away electrical outlet. The vac charges vertically, so it has a very small footprint, another bonus. I gave it a full 24-hour charge before first use. I can't speak to how long a charge lasts since I only use it for about 5 minutes or less at a time (multiple times a day), and it is always charging. I do like that the lithium battery has no "battery memory" issues so I don't have to worry about storing it on its base. The vac is very effective at sucking up the cat litter and has a fairly wide nozzle head to catch more with each pass. The charging light is quite bright as others have mentioned but that is a non-issue in my laundry room. However I think a piece of blue painter's tape over the light would dim it down. I like the extendable nozzle which minimizes how far I have to bend to clean the litter from the floor. It is likely I will find other places to use this nifty little vac in my home beyond the cat litter. I reduced the rating by one star because it is kind of fussy to get the two halves of the vac to reunite after emptying the dust cup. Maybe I got a lemon, but the mechanisms that are supposed to engage and lock the two sections into place don't always engage fully, and you can't tell it's not seated properly until the front half of the vac falls off while you are vacuuming. Additionally, although the litter is easy to dump from the dust cup, the inevitable cat hair and general dust are not as easy to clean.
This here black + decker bust duster really saved my hash. I was at home by myself over a weekend while my wife was away at a work conference. While she was gone I thought I'd try to make some chocolate from scratch with a bunch of organic materials. I didn't know what those ingredients were and I decided not to do that. So I decided I'd drink some absinthe instead. The real way. I had gotten a bottle from a friend of mine that I had never opened because my wife didn't want me to have a psychotic episode in front of her. But since she wasn't there I figured I would give it a try. I poured some absinthe into a glass and placed a knife across the top (I didn't have one of those absinthe spoons). I put a sugar cube on top of the knife and dripped some cold water over it. I don't know if that worked the way it's supposed to work but I drank it. I didn't feel too bad. Just like I would after drinking some vodka. So I had a second glass. I still felt pretty good so I had a third glass. And I kind of remember counting backwards for no reason. When I woke up, the next door neighbor (Elmer) was lying on my living room floor next to me with a bowl of popcorn between us. We each only had one shoe on though and there was popcorn everywhere. I woke him up and he told me he came over because he wanted to tell me to turn the music down but he had a couple glasses of absinthe with me and then he remembered he started counting backwards (that's crazy right?). Anyway, it was Sunday and my wife was coming back that day and luckily delivers on Sundays and also luckily my wife had ordered this vacuum because our other vacuum was broken. I opened the box and used the vacuum to vacuum up all the popcorn (and kernels I couldn't see). It also scooped up all the crushed sugar cubes on the kitchen floor. All I had to do was pop the canister out and empty all the evidence into a trash bag and then into the trash can and then hopefully into the trash truck on trash day without her noticing that we had some extra trash in the trash can that week. She never noticed. When Elmer saw how well the vacuum worked he said he was going to order one too.
We've had this portable vacuum for over a year and I can say that I am still quite impressed by this unit. After our last handhled vacuum couldn't hold a charge for more than 30 sec I swore I'd never get another one.But reading the reviews of this model with the LI-Ion battery pack, we got one. This makes it a bit more expensive but well worth it!It has amazing suction for a handheld, is easy to clean, handles well. The only slight negative is that the thing is LOUD when it's on.You just place it back on its charger which keeps the unit vertical and out of the way (I kind of miss the wall mount...).Highly recommend if you're needing a modern handheld vacuum
This vacuum is awesome! So handy to have around. I've had it for about 3 months and have only charged it twice. It had about 5-10 min of juice right out of the box and I used it until it died, then charged it. Used it for spot cleaning, not everyday, more like 1-2 times a week and just had to charge it again after a few months of use. It charges really fast. I've never charged it over night always during times when I'll be home and can watch when it's done. I know it's the lithium battery and not the nickel one but I don't want to take any chances. I spent a decent amount of money on this and don't want to risk it. I let it die completely before recharging it as well. I've emptied the container a couple of times and it's very simple. No small parts and that's what I wanted. I love this little thing and it totally comes in handy when I don't want to drag the bigger vacuum around. I definitely recommend purchasing!
I got this to clean up the food my bird kicks out of her bowl and I love this little thing. It is loud for the size. I have to turn it off if I need to talk to someone nearby, or hope they just decide to talk to me later. I don't consider this a serious detriment, because I'm a bird owner and used to loud noises, and also I don't like to talk to people. It's got so much suction, the extendable nose (that's not what you call it but I can't think of the word) is so handy and fits everywhere I need it to and picks up everything I want it to. I think it would suck up a penny even.
This hand vac is a game-changer for an apartment with a toddler! The crevice tool is perfect for a highchair tidy-up and in between the couch cushions. I used the flip-up brush to get saw dust up in my closet after I removed a nailed-in wooden shelf. With both of those attachments "stowed" - they are always attached to the vac!!! Can't lose them! - I easily sucked up Cheerios and dust bunnies before Grandma and Grandpa's visit. The base, in which the vac sits vertically, is a great space-saver, as I put it on top of our kitchen shelf where I can reach it but the kiddo cannot. I use this at least once a day. It's plenty strong enough for everyday spills and dust and food scraps, and it's incredibly easy to empty out. LOVE it. Seriously a game-changer, especially for an apartment-dweller with limited space.
This is a huuge time saver! We had a really old handheld vacuum but it would always putter out before I was done sucking up the things I needed to, and I didn't want to haul the large vacuum in my room every single day. I set this next to my ferrets cage so all I have to do is reach over and grab it. This lasts well past that ancient vacuum, is much more powerful, and with the extension it can get into smaller spaces. It's really easy to take apart and clean so it's not a hassle to do on a regular basis. It has made cleaning up after my ferrets a quick task instead of an annoying one. Love, love, love this vacuum!
Disclaimer: I bought this product used, but with only minor cosmetic damage in a small area of the main body, and with little to no run time on the actual unit. That said, so far, I couldn't be happier! I bought this vac, like some others on here, specifically for cleaning up after my cats. Anyone who has cats can tell you, no matter how hard you try with mats, pads or low-tracking litter, they track litter everywhere! My old dust buster just wasn't up to the task of getting litter out of the litter mats or the carpet. This vac has a very strong motor, and good battery life. It doesn't seem to slowly die like some others I've owned, it just keeps chugging along at full power and then quickly dies when it is out of juice. The extendable tube and flip down brush are nice features, along with the ability to rotate the nose section to either side to get into tight spaces. I am very satisfied with my purchase, and will be getting another one for general use around the house!

BLACK + DECKER CHV1410L 16 volt Lithium Cordless Dust Buster Hand Vac (small appliance - April 26, 2016) I have always wanted a small, portable, reasonably powerful, long-life battery powered vac. In the past the few I owned were disappointments. Flimsy, low power, limited battery life, overpriced and apparently designed to die an early death - hoping we consumers would run out a purchase a replacement. No not me - I haven't owned one for over ten years - until now. I received the vac two day after I ordered it with Prime. The battery had a charge so I was able to verify it was functional right out of the box.LIKED:-Suction: For a hand held battery unit it's quite powerful and can pick up a surprising amount of litter and dust. No it won't replace you Hoover but for the quick pick up job it's more than adequate.-Workmanship: This is a well designed unit with a good balance and simple controls. An easy to push thumb slid button on the handle turns it on and off. Another button on the handle unlocks the dust bowl assembly for cleaning.-Accessories: The simple but effective accessories are built it. There is a brush attached to the nozzle which flips down to use. To get in hard to reach tight spots there is a telescoping built-in nozzle that slides out. I like that a lot - nothing to loose or misplace.-Battery Charging: The design of the charging connection is remarkable. What a relief that there is no pronged plug nor is there an hard to locate charging port. The charging port is a plastic saucer with a connected wire that needs to be plugged into an AC outlet. The vac just sits upright on the charging plate with no orientation or "click or snap in" mechanical engagement required. Lift up to use - place on the sauce/charging base to recharge - nice, real nice in my estimation.Battery life: Now this is just an estimate but I would recharge the unit after 5 to 8 min of continuous use.Cleaning: The effectiveness of this unit to pick up dirt depends on how clean the filters are. This is a hand held unit with powerful suction for it's size so the filters can clog quickly and performance will degrade. Basically you must clean the filters every time you use it. There is a dust bowl and a cloth filter.Indicator Light: A good size bright blue lamp on the unit's base (an LED I presume) that blinks when charging and is steady blue when fully charged. A nice touch I say and yes I keep it on the charger all the time when not in use in my garage.DISLIKED:Cleaning the filters often is necessary but it's a drudge. This is the trade off you make when you buy a portable vac.Disengaging the front end assemble where the larger dust bunnies accumulate and reattaching it to the vac is my only grrrrr issue I have with this vac. It does not disengage easily and is somewhat tricky to reattach. Cleaning the cloth filter is easier but messy. Not a "don't buy" issue for me but thought you should know about it.RECOMMENDATION:A well designed battery powered hand vac with multiple uses for home and car - recommended.
I had my first Dust Buster for over 10 years until the battery finally died on it. I purchased two more dust busters afterwards that didn't last very long, not even a full year. I couldn't find anything reliably reviewed so I put off buying another one until I heard about this one. I liked the reviews and went ahead and purchased it.So far. So good. I like this one. The power and suction are terrific and pick up the tiniest crumbs, pet hair and pieces of pet food with just one run over. This one is easy to use and easy to set up and empty the filter and clean out. I love the fact that this one is on a Lithium battery rather than the standard Ni-Cad battery. This one can be left plugged in without the danger of overcharging or draining the battery. The only caveat is that this one isn't hung on a wall, but that isn't a problem. I set mine on the floor in the laundry room out of the way. This has a blue light on it to tell you that it's charging or charged.Looking for a reliable and easy to use dust buster, I don't hesitate to recommend this one. Only time will tell how long it will actually last.
I can't speak on durability or battery life because I've had this little sucker (pun intended) for only ten days. Material quality seems just fine, but I haven't invited my clutziness to partake in the evaluation....give it time. My only legitimate issue so far is the pitch of the scream that it emits....somewhere between Spielberg's T-Rex and Donald Sutherland's screech at the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It'd probably be smart to wear ear plugs, but The Who already took away a good chunk of my hearing at a 1970 concert at Cleveland Public Hall, so what the hell. Overall, I'm ok with it so far...I especially like the little brush on a swivel....reminds me of Charlie Chaplin, and boy, did he suck!
I have a chronic illness so my goal this year was to spend a bit of money on making my life easier so chores don't get away from me. At first I bought the Dyson handheld vac, but returned it because I figured there had to be something priced more reasonably that got the job done. I checked reviews and ended up with this. When I bought it from it was on sale which brought it to exactly the regular everyday price at my local Target store.I like that all the "attachements" (extension want and brush) are attached and slide out or flip out. This means you don't have to carry around extras and don't have to store extras. Although I am for the most part happy with this purchase here are a few things you should know:The charging pedestal blows design-wise. I couldn't put it on a shelf that was easy to reach because the vac has to touch the pedestal on it's backend, leaving the whole vac in a vertical position. It would be much better if I could wall mount it. In my case in the utility room I have two shelves and this is on the lowest one. Because there is not enough space for the Dust Buster to stand up the way it needs to in order to charge, I have to make sure that the slight angel faces the right direction with narrow margins so it can fit there. The suction is great on this but peters out as soon as you pick up any hair, fur or dust bunnies. Because of the way the dust receptacle is designed anything more hair-like clogs up the filter portion rapidly and with very little effort. I use it mostly for litter and things that fall on the kitchen floor or in the bathroom. I've learned if I see some cat fur tufts to leave that for last and to empty the bin, no matter how empty it appears to be, immediately after each use.The receptacle for dust/dirt is very narrow on the sides and deep. You can pretty much figure that if you do have any fur, hair, dust bunnies in there that you will need to stick your fingers in to get them out no matter what. It is simply too narrow for them to fall out themselves no matter how much you shake.I can live with these quirks in design (although I would have figured after so many decades of making these hand helds that B&D would actually better the design flaws instead of make them more difficult) because this hand vac works for me. It has made my life easier and helped me to keep my house clean. I used to pull out the shop vac to do these same things but now don't have to. Although I didn't use the Dyson for long, I expected it have more suction due to the hype and price tag. This is at least as strong (so long as there is no fur as stated above).I think this is one of my best purchases for making my life easier.
Excellent little Dustbuster, was exactly what I was hoping for in a small vacuum. Has good suction and holds a decent charge, the charger itself is neat wherein its a contact charger so you just set it on a platform and it starts charging. My only complaint is the chamber for trash and such is hard to empty, and would be better served if it had multiple openings but instead you have to put your hand in there to pull out stuff.
So far, it works very well and is easy to use. I actually got it to vacuum bugs off the ceiling or other hard to reach places, because the user reviews for bug vacuums on were generally rather negative. It does the job with bugs, but you have to be careful not to let them escape when you empty the bag, since it does not kill them right away. Now that I have it, I of course found many other uses for it, such as picking up small amounts of dust, etc. off floors. It is very easy to empty and the built-in nozzle extension is very handy. I have not kept it plugged in all the time, although the instructions say that you can do that without damaging the battery. When the battery is run down, the light on the handle will start flashing, indicating that you need to put it on the charger base. I actually saw on TV a new vacuum from Black + Decker that looked similar to this, but also could be used as an upright by snapping the vacuum onto a pole-type device, so you might want to also look into that. Just a suggestion.
I'm so happy! This has a strong suction and the brush/extension being built in make a huge difference because I don't have to worry about misplacing them. It's attractive looking in this color, and the lithium battery is a big plus. I'm glad I don't have to worry about the battery being worn down. I have animals, so I just plugged this in on my kitchen counter as its new home. Using this once or twice a day should help me out a lot. It's especially perfect on the stairs and in the corners! The only thing I would change is the mouth of the bin. It's a little narrow, so when I am shaking out the debris and hair I have to stick a finger in to get everything out. This is very lightweight, which is a plus when you're doing a lot of bending and crouching.
I have had another one of this same handheld cordless vacuum for several years. It's a workhorse. I've cleaned up after many home repair projects with wood chips from cutting boards, spackling dust from sanding walls, you name it. Also use it for edges and corners of carpeted stairs from time-to-time. It picks up almost anything and the charge lasts a long, long time. Finally decided to get one for downstairs just for convenience!
This is the second CHV1410L I bought. I liked the first one so much I bought one for the basement. It works great for small cleanups (around litter box, shavings from Chinchilla)- as well as sawdust. I never had any issue with run-time, it lasts at least 4 minutes on a charge which is more than enough for cleanups (might last a lot longer- I never have needed it more than that). I replaced filter once on old one so far. very easy to use and empty. I don't really ever use the brush attachment. the extending nozzle works well- sometimes a little tough to unlock and slide back in- but I'll take that over it not locking properly any day. Great little vacuum
I bought this to vacuum our tent while camping - we camp every weekend at two-month-long Renaissance festivals during which our tent stays set up the entire run of the festival, and lots of dirt gets tracked into the tent no matter what we do. It replaced a Dirt Devil car vac which finally would not charge. After the very first weekend of using this, the blue light no longer worked, which fooled me into thinking it was charged when it wasn't. But, after that, I discovered the vac worked just fine ... pretty darn well, actually, when charged, I just couldn't trust the light to tell me whether or not it was charged because the light didn't work. Other than this, I really like the vacuum, it's a great upgrade over the Dirt Devil.
The good. This is not the Dustbuster of old. This handheld sucks, in a good way. In the distant past we've had some of the original models and as good as they may have been for their time, there is no comparison. I was surprised by the power from something this small. We were looking for something portable that would pickup crumbs from around our snacking chairs, hair from the bathroom floor, without having to haul out the main vacuum. This model fits the bill and then some. We are slowly upgrading our floors from carpet to hardwood and tile. In between full cleaning of the hard surfaces we now use a dust mop to give the floors a quick sweep, moving any debris into a corner then use the portable vac to clean up the debris and dust mop.The bad(ish). The unit is bit loud for something this small, but it is moving a lot of air. The other thing that gets me is the charging station. It isn't wall mountable, you have to have shelf space for it. Would have loved to give 5 stars but the design of the charging station is making me hold back one star.Notes. Purchased as new but the first unit arrived and it was clearly used so had to return it. made this process very easy. For an extra $4.20 we went ahead and purchased 2 year protection plan. After a couple months use, we found that having extra filters makes life easier for the occasional washing of the dirt bowl/filter assembly . We can wash one filter, reassemble the unit with a clean filter and be ready to go while the just washed filter gets good and dry. I'd say to anybody having any issues with theirs, return it as soon as possible. For the number of units that seem to have been sold there are bound to be some lemons that slip through inspection. I'd hate to see you lose out on such an excellent hand vac.
We just moved, and this has been a LIFESAVER. There's no space to get out the big vacuum around all the packing boxes, but I was able to follow our messy tracks from move-in day and get everything cleaned up nicely. We also wiped down the end and used it to clean the inside of the cupboards. And it's PERFECT for cleaning the cat box - way easier to vacuum up the litter sprinkled around than going after it with broom and dustpan. It has more than enough suction to clean out the litter-catching mat, too. The mechanism to empty it is super simple, but the shape means I sometimes have to reach in and pull hairballs out if they don't come away with gravity alone. The charging port is definitely a bit awkward, since you have to basically balance it vertically, and I'm going to look into using brackets or J-hooks like some reviewers posted photos of to try to wall-mount it.
I have to admit that I was very skeptical about this little vac. I was all set to buy a Dyson when my wife said, let's just try it. It's not that expensive and if it doesn't work well, it won't be much money lost. To my surprise it works great and my wife loves it! It's so much easier than dragging out the full size vac to clean up the kids messes and to that end, they can now get the "little" vacuum and clean up their own messes! Brilliant! I personally spilled some scrambled eggs the other day and, after the dog ate the big stuff, the vac picked up the rest with no issue. So in all, it was definitely worth the investment. Now, we don't try to clean the entire house with it and it's used for what small vacs are meant for, small jobs here and there and to that end, it's been great!
I am so glad Black & Decker changed to the Lithium batteries as their old style batteries would not last any time at all. This particular 16V Cordless Lithium dust buster is fantastic! It gets up kitty litter in a jiff and helps clean the lint screen on my dryer to perfection. It has a very strong suction and is LOUD so be aware of that. You don't want to use it when someone is asleep close by! Ha ha! My dogs and cats are now used to the loud noise this appliance makes so you'll get used to it too. I would highly recommend this dust buster...they also make one that is a 20V.
This arrived same day as promised. Good handheld rechargeable for the price. Corded are more powerful but less maneuverable for what I needed. Would've given 5 stars but charging light woke me up the first night and took me longer than I'm willing to admit to figure out what the flashing disco light in our bedroom was coming from.Pros:More powerful than last handheld I had. But was 2x the price so it is what I expectedCharges quicklyExtending snout works well to get in-between seats in truck.Washable filter that actually is pretty good filterCons:Louder than less powerful modelsCharging light (real bright in dark room) flashes constantly even if fully charged; much like Homer Simpson's "everything's OK alarm." I don't suggest you keep this hooked up in a bedroom like I did the first night.Emptying container is a bit awkward, at least the first time; I kept thinking I was breaking it.
This may be my favorite purchase I've made all year. This is a light-weight handheld vacuum with impressive suctioning power. I wind up using it so much more than my large floor vacuum because it does just as good of a job cleaning things up but is so much less of a hassle and can really fit into the nooks and crannies around my apartment in ways the floor vacuum just can't. It seems to hold a charge for a very long time; I've had it for a few months and have used it extensively, and it's still going on its first charge. It's highly portable, too; I'm known to drag it outside to my apartment's parking lot and vacuum up my cars on the weekends. I can't recommend this enough!
Since the quintessential Dustbuster has been upgraded and hotrodded, I really didn't know what to expect once it arrived. Happily, I was not disappointed at all. It's got plenty of "umph" for stuff like popcorn and snack crumbs, but it also can manage dust creatures, and the wide variety of shavings, dust, and fragmentia that occurs in the workshop of an artist. I drop clay bits, tissue paper shreds, chainmaille rings, bottle caps, bandaid wrappers and who knows what else all the time, and my new Dustbuster has made it easy to quickly suck up the mess. A little extra high-power suckage to keep my life neat is a Good Thing! I love it! It also seems to handle cross-cut paper shreddies and it thumbs its nose at toner, which everyone knows is a real bear to clean up. About the only thing I regret ever vacuuming up with it is a stink bug, who, though long gone and disposed of, left just enough of his "displeasure" on the inside of my vac that I am reminded of him each time I use it. Lesson to the wise: DO NOT vacuum up stink bugs. They take it personally, and you'll never ever get that scent out of whatever type of vac you use. Much better to gently catch it in a paper tissue and flush it away. Whatever you do, don't squish them! It's a mistake you will never forget. As someone with a workshop and who also has pets, this vac has it all going on, and I love mine. It's one of the few items I own that I would have to go out right away and buy another if something should happen to the one I have.
Was leary on purchase, dust busters are just not what they used to be, I'm only 33 but the quality used to be way better. My wife and I bought one a few years back and hardly used it. Hard to charge, suction was crap and you had to remove from power to avoid destroying the battery to over charge. This one has brought some faith back! It is a tad loud but this thing is great. Great suction and it just sits in the charger. The filter cover is a bit small so a few clogs happen but overall we are really happy with this. If you don't want to drop hundreds on over priced hand helds, get this

I LOVE this hand-vacuum! It's not only powerful, but easy to disassemble and clean. The recharging stand is simple, clever; very small, and just sit your vacuum on it. When the light on your vacuum is blue - it's charging. When it's off, the vacuum is totally recharged. And NO, you can't "over-charge" it. It's meant to sit on the recharging base when not in use. I can get a good 20 minutes charge out of it, which I think is very good. I have pets and live rurally, so my vacuum picks up a lot of fur and other nasty stuff. Next to it's power, I find the best thing is how easy the vacuum is to clean. All of the 'sucking' assembly comes apart: the nozzle, the filter comes out of the holder which comes out of the larger gunk-holder. I spray everything down with a general-purpose cleaner, let it sit for a few minutes, then spray with hot water to rinse well. After that, I let the parts air-dry (make SURE everything is dry) and re-assemble. I anticipate having to change out the filter itself every 5-10 cleanings. On top of how great the vacuum is, I got it on sale! WOOOOT!
My sister traveled to the East Coast with her two Australian Shepherd dogs from the West Coast. She told me she couldn't wait to arrive on the East Coast to see me so she can vacuum out the truck from all of the dog fur. I thought to myself, "In the future, why should she wait until she gets to her destination to vacuum out the truck?!" So I purchased this and gave it to her when she arrived at my house. She told me she used it every night to vacuum out her truck and how much it works so well. She said it has great suction power, easy to charge and store. The blue charging light when on its base also serves as a night light she said! She said she highly recommends this vacuum! It's been tested every night from the East Coast to the West Coast!
My previous Black and Decker portable vacuum died after 10-12 years of ownership (with rare use). I trust the brand!! Got this one. Love it!I broke a huge stoneware pan the other day. This cleaned it up like a champ. It cleans up the dry cat food that's always everywhere. I love this. The little brush attachment at the tip keeps falling off. Perhaps I am just too much in a rush. It's a bit annoying to have to keep putting on. Maybe I should just remove it completely. I'm not really sure what to use that thing for, anyway. Maybe if I was vacuuming cloth or a vent or a window blind. Hm.Anyway, I love this.
This is the best hand vac we have ever owned. Make sure to get the model with the Lithium-Ion battery, not the ones with NiMH or NICad batteries, which have a "memory effect" that shortens the life span if not charged properly. We use this mostly in short bursts of 5 minutes or so, but we have used it as much as 15 minutes or more at a time, when cleaning out our cars. Can be left on the charger indefinitely, but should not be left in a discharged state for more than a week. Charges up fast too. Easy to disassemble and clean the dust filter and bowl. Nozzle extends (telescopes) so it can be used as a crevice tool. It also has a flip-up brush at the end for hard to pick specks on the floor or furniture. Because the batteries do not have "the memory effect", you can bring it back up to full charge in it's convenient charging stand at any time, after only a couple of minutes of use, without a detrimental effect on battery life.. Very satisfied with it.
I love this vacuum! The battery life lasts a while during use and it doesn't drain if you keep it on the charger over time. I like the rotating nozzle feature, it helps me reach into spaces behind furniture without twisting my wrist in odd ways. Works great to clean up cat litter and other debris after sweeping. Also handy for vacuuming baseboards, corners of stairs, cobwebs on the ceiling, you name it. The double filter system works great and is easy to clean. Individual pieces of cat litter (and similarly sized objects) *do* get stuck in the small holes of the plastic basket holding the fabric filter, but you can knock them out or use a toothpick or safety pin to push them out. Even with them in (and it's really only a few that get lodged in the hundreds of holes that are there) it doesn't worsen the vacuum's ability to filter. Sometimes it takes me a minute to line up the fabric filter so that it fits in the plastic basket but that's a minor inconvenience. Very easy to clean, the majority of dirt and debris are in the collection chamber (or whatever you want to call it -- the thing the filter housing sits in). Just knock it out into a wastebasket and you're good to go!
Extremely happy with this vaccum. We have had a couple of hand held vacuums previously (one was also a Black & Decker), and neither of them lasted all that long. The NiCd batteries in the old ones reached a state in which they wouldn't hold enough of a charge to vacuum for even 60 seconds. This one has a lithium ion battery, and this one is different. This battery hold plenty of charge, and we only need to recharge it after 10-15 total minutes of use -- maybe more, it's hard to keep track. It charges back up fairly quickly, and then you're back in business. This vacuum also seems to be considerably more powerful, too. It easily picks up all types of small debris, and you don't need to linger over each piece of debris while waiting for the vacuum to do its work -- if you're even close, the vacuum will grab it and grab it quickly.I'd definitely buy another one of these vacuums, but since this one works so well and seems to be so durable, I suspect it's going to be quite awhile before I need another one.
Finally got a few chances to use this and it works great. Just moved in to a new house and have been doing plenty of moving things around. The vacuum works great, picks up small items in hard to reach areas without any issue. Even picks up larger items fairly easily also, although I didn't mean to pick those up, but the ease at which the vacuum picked up larger and heavier items was impressive. The vacuum is very lightweight and easy to use. It comes apart easy for emptying and cleaning and the charging station is simple, just set it down and let it charge. Noise is the only issue, it is loud, but that is expected if you want any power from a small motor.
The bad: It's loud AF. The crevice tool doesn't lock well & slides back in when there is even light pressure on its end. The brush tool picks up debris but doesn't move the debris toward the nozzle to get vacuumed. The battery charge doesn't last long C you'd be lucky to get 10 minutes of use, 5-7 is more likely. The good: It's a handheld vacuum.... It has very good suction. It fulfills its purpose of quick and easy clean-up for small jobs. The rotating nozzle feature isn't designed in the best way, but it's still useful. The canister has a fairly large capacity. I like the "horizontal" charging plate instead of having to mount it on the wall.
Can't speak for longevity, as I've only had this for a few days. Got it for toddler messes, but also to use in my car. I will say that it is not great as a car floor mat cleaner. It's just not powerful enough to get grass, leaves, etc. embedded in my mats... you have to push down pretty firmly for the debris to come on. It does give the car a good "once over" though so I suppose it's good enough. I didn't use it continually for more than a minute or two, rather, just bursts over the course of twenty minutes and had no problem with the battery. So far, so good but again, if you want a car cleaner, get one that plugs into your lighter or something more powerful.
Love it. I've used it everyday since I got it. I have two big shedding dogs and wood floors and have a dry swiffer mop thing I push around to sweep and vacuum up the piles and vacuum off the microfiber pad as I go from room to room. So much easier than getting out the big vacuum and unwinding and winding the cord everytime. Makes it so much quicker. Swiffer broom thing in one hand, hand vac in the other. Wish the hole to empty it out was a little bigger. (You can open the filter end too and that's plenty big enough, but have to take the filter and filter holder out to do so (extra step)). And would be nice if the docking station could be wall mounted for storage. But I just plug the docking station in on a shelf on top of my washing machine and set it on there and that works just fine.
This is seriously one of the best things I've ever bought. I was specifically looking for a hand-held vacuum to keep in my bathroom and vacuum up hair every once in a while. This thing is easy to clean, easy to charge, lightweight, etc. I've used it in the kitchen to clean up spills, in the car, in the bathroom, literally anywhere. The one negative is that the battery only lasts about 10 minutes total. For me, it's not a big deal, but for some it might be. It actually holds a lot of dirt which was a pleasant surprise. Once the filter and inner compartment get full of dirt, the vacuum looses suction, but that is to be expected. Anyways, this was a fantastic purchase for me.

Ok, I've had time to evaluate this now, it's on it's second charge and all is right with the world. I like the styling on this, it's well built, easy to empty and clean and really very powerful. Sorta looks like an Andy Warhol depiction of a Saurian Brandy bottle. Be aware that the battery charge is very short lived. Mine lasted a little over twenty minutes before it pooped out. But I only use it for quick cleanups around the house and car so that is okay with me. The motor is very strong so will naturally drain the battery pretty fast. i only mention it in case you are considering buying it for something like a car cleaning or janitorial business, it won't work for that.My only real complaint is that it is kinda unstable going into the charging station. That looks like a saucer with two electrodes in the center and you just set the unit down onto it. But it keeps falling over unless you make sure it's seated properly. Should be shaped more like a bowl with some support. Otherwise, buy this little beauty if you need a quick, strong picker upper around the kitchen or den or whereever.
I've had this Black & Decker cordless vacuum for over a year now, and I put this poor thing through it's paces! Mulch and leaves on the patio, you-don't-even-want-to-know in the car, dry spills anywhere in the house...this thing plows through all of it. Fully charged, I get around 20-30 minutes of solid vacuuming before it has to go back on the charger.Filter replacements are easy to install, cheap and available here on . Has a detachable little brush on the end of it that's really good and loosening up embedded dirt before it sucks it outta there. Love this little cordless!
This was not a reduced price review, I just wanted it and bought it. We have little kids and a dog and the house often has things that need to be cleaned up fast, but are not worth the dragging out of the bigger vac, and not exactly what I want to sweep. I have a similar type of dust buster but it's old and has a power cord. That's still great if you don't mind dealing with the cord, but this can be recharged on its base and is a heck of a lot more convenient. The filter is nice, and I wish it came with more of them, but I used points from my Visa and got it for basically nothing, so why complain? The neatest things about it are the nozzle, which just extends, and the brush feature, which just folds out, or back away when not in use. I hate having to keep track of accessories and they'll just end up getting lost or shoved into a junk drawer oblivion until some day they get thrown out because nobody remembers what they're for. No accessories except the charging base. Which brings up one issue...I have to give up surface or floor space for that, because it can't be mounted to a wall. That means that unless the two year old is afraid of the vacuum, which he is, it could become extremely portable as a pretend galactic battle weapon or even pretend lawn maintenance utensil. I am going to be pretty lucky until he realizes what a handy gadget this is to try giving his infant sister a belly hernia.
Black and Decker has produced a nice product. I like it and is best for folks who live in 1 or 2 bedroom apartments. It charges fast enough and has reasonable usage time. They could make the work-end with a little softer material as the present tip scratches hardwood floor. Most of the time it sits ok on the charging deck but they should work on an easier charging pad. After using it for a period of time, I find that the battery discharges very fast. I used to vacuum 3 rooms (all small) without charging it. Now I can vacuum only one room. I am going down by a start for this reason. Still I like it.
We learned to like the Black and Decker cordless dustbuster that our daughter has. We especially liked the power, the charger, and the long lasting charge. It is an effective light weight easy to use hand held vac. This one has two features that I mildly criticize. One and the most severe is that it is quite loud - louder than the older model. I am partially deaf. it is concerning - don't want to damage my ears further. Secondly it is not a wall mount like our daughters - but it does have a charge indicator light that tells you the charge/charging status. The filter is easy to remove and clean. Overall a good dustbuster - I give it four stars. PapaEv
Lift and go! This is an outstanding feature of the B&D CHV1410L. Just lift it off the base and you're ready to go. Other vacs have required holding down the base with one hand and lifting/unsnapping the vac with the other. Or, even more annoying, my previous hand vac required detaching the awkwardly placed power input, and later re-inserting it. Definitely a chilling effect on doing a quick pick-up. With this vac, just pick it right up, and later set it back on the saucer-like base and it returns to charging. Very good suction and long working time, not too heavy. Possible negative for some people: The vac must be stored upright on its charging base, like a coffee pot sitting on a burner. And it then takes up 17.5" of vertical space, or 22" with the crevice extension snapped in place, as I prefer to leave it. Luckily, I was able to find a waist-high spot where it fits and is easy to grab. Other reviewers say the front just falls off. It happened to me a couple of times on day one, until I realized I was accidentally reaching beyond the raised on-off button, and touching the flat release button. I soon learned to avoid this, but it is not a happy placement of the release button. Bottom line: I love it; I can't wait for litter to fall so I can enjoy hand-vacuuming it up.
I bought this in August. It was great for picking up small messes. I'm writing this because mine had a problem when it started blowing the dirt out instead of into the canister. I called Black + Decker and provided them with model info and what my problem was. They took my name and address and then told me they are shipping a replacement. As hard as companies try, things can go wrong. I judge a company by how they handle these problems. All I can say is WOW, great job Black + Decker!
I like it very much, a great improvement from our previous one,, many years ago. It is easy and comfortable to use this vacuum. Suction is great! It claims two attachments, but really, the first is already attached, the opening for the vacuum, and the other one, the only attachment in my opinion, is a brush that flips from underneath the opening, covering the opening.
I bought this Sep 2016 it hasn't even been a year and it doesn't want to charge anymore. Unfortunately I don't believe I bought a warranty. This product is cheap! I totally expected more from Black and Decker because my dad buys their products at HD all the time. I won't be buying B&D anymore!Update! after I put this bad review, they contacted me immediately and they replaced my B&D handvac. I changed my star rating from 1 to 5 because of their quick no questions asked service.
This is a solid vacuum, I am happy with my purchase. Of course it's not perfect, but for fifty bucks I can't complain. I live in a one bedroom apartment with wood floors so I don't have room to store an upright canister vacuum. To keep my place clean I have this vacuum, a broom/dustpan combo, and a swiffer wet jet. This vacuum is great for cleaning up messes - spilled cereal, knocked over flowerpots, etc. The brush attachment on the end is handy for cleaning/dusting trim on the floorboards, or on my rugs. My only real gripe is the noise - I've noticed in cheaper vacuums and hair dryers, there is less muffling of the more high pitched noise they emit when in use. This is the noise that is really irritating to you and your neighbors! If you live in an apartment, don't expect to be able to use this to clean up a spill at midnight, because everyone is going to hear it. I would still purchase this vacuum knowing this, but it's something to be aware of.
I like this little vacuum! All I needed was something to clean up dog fur, and more importantly, hay. My rabbit likes to make a mess in her pen area and the surrounding places, so I needed something portable that wouldn't get clogged up by long strands of hay. In my Dyson upright, the long tube system meant that the hay would get stuck in bends, making it impossible to get out. With this little vacuum, there is almost zero chance of something getting clogged to the point where its unusable. The entire thing comes apart and allows you to clear any blockages. As for suction, it could definitely be stronger, but I wasn't expecting anything remarkable for the price that I paid. It keeps my kitchen and rabbit pen clean, which is all that I needed it for. Overall a great little vac!
It really sucks and in this case, that's a good thing. Great product at a good price. The Lithium batteries are far superior to NiCad or Nickel-metal Hydrides.10/4/16 - update - the vacuums ( I purchased two of them) are still working great but I had to mention the stellar customer service I received from Black & Decker. One of the plastic buttons broke (that hold the nozzle on) and a glue repair just wasn't working. I sent an inquiry to B&D about purchasing some replacement buttons. They sent me a whole new unit for free! Wow! I'm astounded! In this day and age of corporations not caring about customer service, B&D went ABOVE AND BEYOND!! Thank you, Black & Decker!!Update: 11/6/2017 - this vacuum comes with a two year warranty. I bought one on 11/1/2015 and today (11/6/2017), it made a horrible 'clacking' noise and stopped working. Coincidence? You be the judge.

This is by no means a long-term test; it is based on only a few uses. Should I become disappointed I will update the review. If you have a realistic expectation of the limits of rechargeable batteries, you will be very pleased. I've been using this thing primarily to keep the floors of my cars clear of leaves and dirt instead of waiting until they are trashed, then pulling out the unruly Shop Vac, plugging it in, etc. etc. Also using it to vacuum up feathers and junk our parrot leaves all day, every day. Or dumb spills of coffee beans and that type of stuff. For these purposes, this vac is great. More power than I expected, quite, and super easy to charge and empty. No issues with battery life, but I don't use for long enough periods to really test that.If you are expecting to replace any type of regular-use vacuum, or to hold up a bowling ball or something, I doubt you'll like it.EDIT: I pulled one star because it is too easy for the plastic nozzle assembly to come undone and fall off. Bump it slightly and it comes off. Still like the vac, but that's a design flaw, it should lock into place more firmly. But I love it.
After reading a lot of reviews for hand vacs... glad I chose this one. It sucks, (in the best meaning for a vac!)- a very strong pull. It's louder than less powerful vacs, but that's the nature of motors. You want it doing what it does! The other fine feature is the long, narrow throat plus the narrower extra extension, both of which make it a best for car vacuuming, getting into those narrow slot crevices between center consoles and front seats and other hard to reach places. I also like the brush end, that flips in and out of position as desired, for loosening little bits from carpet or breaking up some more "established" crusty dust. Like other vacs it, too, provides for easy emptying and cleaning. I should also mention that it's charging/battery type allows for leaving on the charger without having to worry or remember about discharging all the way and all that battery memory hassle! A well designed tool, worth the price.
Ok, I've got to admit, I didn't purchase this for carpet or cleaning up dog hair. I have a boxelder bug problem on my organic farm and organic pesticides don't work on them. So, as a last ditch effort, I got this bad boy to suck up the nymphs and deposit them into my pond (the mosquito fish love eating them!). This thing works like a charm! It has great suction power, doesn't seem to get clogged, holds a long charge and recharges quickly too! I'm very pleased with the product and it seems to be taking care of my pest problem too!
I am a truck driver and it is very helpful to get into little crevices. I'm not sure I like that it auto shuts off when the battery is out instead of noticibly going slower.I have purchased other types dirt devil excetera but this is the best I have owned a few of those over the years and the motors keep getting stronger as they improve them
I made the mistake a few years ago of buying a cheap version of this, a $30 Black and Decker, and everything that was wrong with it has been solved in this (twice as expensive) version--good suction, long lasting battery, no problem with getting it make contact with the charging plates which in that wall hung version frequently fell out of contact, and an LED light to show that it is charging. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. The power cord from wall to charger is nice and long, even though the manufacturer's sketch makes it look like it's short. Recommended.
I have tried so many handheld vacuums only to be disappointed again and again. Not this time. I am so in love with this vac! It is so easy to empty, it sucks up anything (including a rogue spider off the ceiling) and it doesn't blow dust around while cleaning. The best part: you don't go deaf while using it. Plus, the battery has yet to give out on my while using it. The extender handle means less bending, which I like, but the brush just picks up everything you're trying to clean up with it, so it's not very helpful without actually touching it. I only wish I would have spotted it attached to the stick vac first because I would have bought it that way.
Good little dust buster. lots of power. About 1.5 yrs into use and it's still going strong. the battery charge provides plenty of time to do lots of vacuuming so it's a great deal. I also purchased another model by Black + Decker (BDH2000PL) which is a 20V version with even more suction power but it just recently stopped functioning correctly after less than 1.5 years of very light/occasional use, however Black & Decker replaced it within 5 days, no questions asked. So kudos to them for standing behind their product and having excellent customer service.Overall, I would definitely recommend this product. So far it's served well and I've had no issues. it cleans very easily and all components can be washed. I haven't had any need to replace any filters or components so far. The only negative part of it is the flip-up little broom which I find to be very useless and disfunctional on multiple levels. I simply don't use it for that reason but in case you're thinking about buying it for this easy flip-up brush feature i'd definitely rethink.
I am very happy with this vacuum which I purchased over 2 years ago and it is still going strong. I purchased it mainly for my ever-shedding cat and it has done a tremendous job picking up her fur as well as the litter she scatters everywhere when she uses her litter box. It is easy to clean and easy to use. It is best on hard floors, but with a little work does the job on soft surfaces like the bed and couch and rug. The attached brush comes in handy for those. I rarely use the extension which it has because the nozzle is narrow enough, but when I do use it, I'm happy to have it.The battery lasts for days without having to recharge, mostly because it's only used for little pickups versus a full size vacuum, but we will leave it off its charger for a few days and it still has a strong suction when we use it.The charging base is great for me as it's easy to just set it and forget it, and then it's easy to grab to use, but I could see where this could be a drawback for some because it doesn't lock in, it just sits. With kids or active pets, I could see this getting knocked down easily. And it's not mountable on the wall, so it can only sit on the floor or a shelf. That being said I am very happy with the purchase as it works well for me.
It's a big improvement over the ones I bought 10-20 years ago. In fact, if I hadn't read about the new type of battery, I had not planned on ever buying one again. My old ones would just stop working after while due to leaving it on the charger. Apparently this problem has been elininated. We'll see. I've had it a week now, and I love it. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't so loud. I like that the tip extends and rotates. It's great for spot cleaning and for getting in corners I can't get to easily with my big vacuum without carrying around all the accessories. The charging light is always on, and it's bright enough to use as a nightlight. Not what you want in your bedroom. (Here's my 20 cents worth of extras. Why don't builders put electrical outlets in closets? Why is it God can create the most sophisticated machine on the planet (our bodies) with mostly soft parts, and we can run perfectly silently most of the time, but man's inventions are so loud and hard?) We have a long way to go.
Got it as a gift for a family member. They had lower back issues so I figured this would help since they would not have to haul a rolling vac out of the closet. The wireless charging is fantastic and it holds a charge for a rather long time. The suction on this thing is great and you can clean just about anywhere with it. It's easy to clean so that's a major perk too. I liked it so much I'll probably end up buying one for myself, its perfect for general vacuum cleaning and it'd be perfect for behind my TV and entertainment set-up, under my desk and tables, and along the window blinds and fans.
I was looking for an easy to use vacuum for quick jobs inside the house as well as in my car. I have a 7 year old, and the backseat of the car gets dirty, quickly and I hated lugging the Shop Vac around for a quick clean up job. The day this vacuum arrived I took it out of the box and turn it on. It appeared to be already charged, which was a nice surprised. Is the suction as good as a traditional vacuum that you plug in? No, its not, but its good enough for what I wanted it for. The charge itself doesn't last very long. I charged it and used it on a quick job that was a few minutes long and then put the vac in the closet. Went to use it later in the week and it only lasted a few minutes at best. The pros are that it compact and easy to use all the while getting the job done for what I wanted it for.

We have had a dust buster for a while but the battery finally started dying (along with the motor which sounded like a bearing was going out), so we looked around for a replacement. I decided to get the Lithium version for the increased battery performance and the price delta wasn't that much at all.Out of the box the Dust Buster had a decent charge so I assembled it (comes in two pieces) and gave it a quick test. It sucked up seed that our messy bird dropped onto our hardwood floors much as you'd expect a hand held vacuum to do.Observations:- I found that the extender locked and stayed in place when in use. In fact I have to press the lock with more force than expected to get it to retract. This is not a bad thing.- The front portion is a little finicky to latch into place. If you aren't careful only one side will latch and it'll fall off when in use. Good news is once you firmly press the two pieces together and they latch the connection is really solid.- When you remove the dust basket from the battery it is a little difficult to snap back together. There's also a little bit of give between the gray dirt basket and the blue battery/handle.- The quality of the grey plastic latches could be better. Functionally they are fine but there are cosmetic defects commonly seen in cheap plastics (swirls in the plastic for instance). Looks like one has a crack, but it isn't cracked - just a visual defect.I'm looking forward to taking it on camping trips and not having to worry about it losing charge. Speaking of... pay attention to the instructions as it says that you must charge it weekly to keep the battery conditioned.
It has been a year and a month since I got this vacuum cleaner, and it does a great job for small and inexpensive thing that it is. I also have a Rainbow with water tank, which is a bulky couple-thousand-dollar item and which I used to pull out once or twice a week up until I got this one.Now I use this Black + Decker literally every day, as I have a kitty and she keeps me busy cleaning fur and litter. It works very well for the daily little messes, and every time I empty it, I get impressed by how much lint and dust it picks up I couldn't even tell was on the floor and rug.I still use the original filter as I clean it and wash with water now and then, and haven't felt the need to replace it. The battery is good, keeps the charge as new. After a few months the blue blinking light for charge indicator stopped working all together, but that's fine with me, because it was too bright in the night when it sat on the charging station, so that was actually a bothersome aspect.5 stars, no complaints, totally recommend.
I purchased the CHV1210 (purple model) http://amzn.com/B004WTE7WC from W@llmart less than a year ago for about $25. It worked okay for about 10 minutes between charges while the motor would eventually whirl to a dead stop. But just a couple months ago wouldn't hold a charge. Apparently daily use was too much for the NiMh battery in the unit. I don't understand why the older NiCd models would last about 5 years and NiMh, the cheaper alternative to lithium nowadays barely last a year.Anyway, I really like my new CHV1410L. It lasts about 15 minutes between 4 hour charges and has plenty of suction to effectively clean up minor spills. I also appreciate that the crevice tool and brush are built into the unit so I don't have to worry about losing pieces.. The only aspect of this model I find lacking in concept is the charger. B&D could easily make a piece of plastic with keyholes in it for wall mounting. But I'm overall pleased I now have a functioning Dustbuster.
The bane of stinkbugs everywhere, this thing is awesome. I have two now - one for each floor. When I see a stinkbug, I grab the B&D 1410L and commence sucking. It's great that you can see them swirl around in the clear plastic compartment, the look of defeat in their little stinkbug eyes. They've updated this model so that the extending nozzle clicks in place and doesn't collapse when you press it against a door frame or the top of a window sill stretching for that last holdout. There's nothing like the look on a stinkbug's face as you reach up with your nozzle extended, flip the switch and watch the 16 volts of lithium ion power extract them from whatever foothold they had, arrogantly believing they had settled out of reach. So very satisfying.I'm pretty sure you can vacuum other things with this too, but I can attest only to stinkbugs and those Chinese knock-off ladybugs. If there were a bug-sucking competition I'd win it easily with this bad boy.
I haven't even used this yet, but it gets no more than three stars because it does not include the necessary cloth filter!! First item I've ever ordered that did not include all necessary parts and did not inform customer that other necessary parts must be ordered separately. I thought better of Black and Decker. My bad. The cloth filter was with the vacuum when it arrived, already installed. And the vacuum does work well. The problem, and the reason I'm still only giving 4 stars, is that the illustrated list of product features on page 4 of the instruction manual is not clear about where the cloth filter goes. After considerable searching, I finally figured out that the cloth filter goes inside the plastic prefilter. This could be much more clearly shown.
Love. Love. Love!!i bought this with low expectations bc the price was soo good. I hate to get my big vacuum out but now we have a 12 month old who tries to eat anything on the floor.I have owned it for 6 months now and it has met all my expectations. The charge stays for a couple of weeks at a time with on and off use (and the suction stays really good too until the charge is too low). It can stay on the charger without hurting the battery life (it's says in the Manuel). Suction is good enough to clean up cat hair from the dining room chairs my cats always sit on and I love the brush attachment. It doesn't hold much but easy to empty. I would def recommend.
I am about to order my 2nd. I keep one on the kitchen counter behind the fridge and use every day, it will pick up anything on the floor or on the counter, and the long nose is great, no need to bend too far, Outstanding suction, the best i've had so far. I have mine for 2 years now and no problem. I recharge it after each substantial use, the outlet is right next to where it sits on the counter. Easy to clean too, you can see thru the transparent body if it's time to empty and clean. Reordering my second this week, it will go around the bathroom area where the litter box is, it does a wonderful job picking up all the litter that rolls around on my hardwood floor everywhere.

I was pleasantly surprised that a small handheld vacuum could pick up stuff off the car carpets and mats. I would have to pay double the price to work as well as this little vacuum cleaner, and I was wrong because this time I broke the old adage "You get What you pay for." I have only one caveat, the shape of this handheld cleaner is not conducive to "nooks and crannies" as its shape makes it hard to get under and between tight areas. Also, the brush on the end of the wand works better for vacuum decoration then cleaning. The suction is strong. I did not need to buy all the optional stuff that others bought; I am still on my first filter, and now I have a whole bunch of replacement filters, etc.
